Once upon a time, humans were concerned with wild animals, natural disasters, and hunting and
gathering food. Today, we may not need to worry about physical challenges like being chased by a
wolf, surviving an avalanche, or hunting with bow and arrow, but we are still faced with an overwhelming amount of decisions on a regular basis that influence our quality of life, health, work, and ability to care for ourselves and those around us. Come explore and discuss together ways we can find peace, relaxation, and health in our daily lives here in this area!

Traditional Healing Wisdom

Saturday, October 7, 2023

2:00pm at Ocean of Compassion Buddhist Center, Campbell, California

For thousands of years, Buddhist teachings were transmitted alongside medical traditions that understood the existence of a healing life force within us all. Over the centuries, the life force (given different names based on culture, such as qi and prana) was mapped out to flow in energy channels in the body. In this event, I will give an overview of traditional healing wisdom and some related scientific studies, as well as practical ways of cultivating this way of healing in our own lives.

Time will be provided for Q&A and group discussion.

The Art of the Heart: Cultivating Inner Peace in Turbulent Times

Monday, August 9, 2021

7:00pm Sunnyvale Public Library

As our communities reopen and recover from the pandemic, mental health remains an important part of making the transition. Join us for a talk on an approach towards inner wellbeing that is rooted in Eastern philosophy. This approach (“the art of the heart” - termed xinshu, 心術, in Chinese) involves an active cultivation of one’s inner calm, stability and clarity. Through practice, one’s inner center can be strengthened such that one remains peaceful despite challenging external circumstances. In this talk, I will draw on examples from popular books, movies, and science to illustrate these classical concepts of Eastern philosophy.

Bridging the Generational and Cultural Gap

Wednesday, October 7, 2020

12:00pm BASIS Independent Fremont

I will be discussing ways for adults and students to build more mutual understanding and empathy, and why these are tremendously valuable skills in current times. I will mention important examples where differences in cultural values directly influence students' behavior in a classroom setting. My path of practicing traditional medicine in modern society has involved much experience in overcoming generational and cultural barriers.

Acupuncture 101

Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 11am Santa Clara County Library

Acupuncture is a branch within the vast field of Chinese medicine, and is based on a very different worldview than that of Western science and medicine. Thousands of years after the formation of the Chinese meridian system, acupuncture is still actively in use during our modern times. Join me for an informative talk on acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
